“We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are part of the universe and are connected with each other to form one whole unity.”

Connecting Children with Nature

You're invited to participate in an educational conversation with Gwen Shangle, Director of Montessori, regarding the joy of playing and learning outdoors on Saturday, January 12 at 9 a.m.  We will review books and research by Richard Louv and Florence Williams, as well as discuss practical ideas families can incorporate right now into their own lives to enrich their experiences with nature. Gwen will share a list of local outdoor areas perfect for families to begin exploring.  She will also review and recommend nature-based gifts and crafts!

Richard Louv is a journalist and author of nine books, including Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder, The Nature Principle: Reconnecting with Life in a Virtual Age, and most recently Vitamin N: The Essential Guide to a Nature-Rich Life: 500 Ways to Enrich Your Family’s Health & Happiness. Delving into brand-new research, Florence Williams uncovers the powers of the natural world to improve health, promote reflection and innovation, and strengthen our relationships.  As our modern lives shift dramatically indoors, these ideas—and the answers they yield—are more urgent than ever.
