PTA Event Overview

  Fundraisers

Auction * planned for March 2009 * Our biggest fundraiser of the year, with more then 10 subcommittees to sign up for. Help plan the largest of all our events, and have a great time while doing it!

Gift-Wrap * October 1- October 10, 2008 * Our first fundraising event of the year, children bring home catalogues for gift-wrap and candy ordering. Lend a hand in processing the orders and delivering the merchandise.

NEW! GMS Kitchen Food Tours * October 2008 *An exciting new fundraising event for GMS this year! This event will be a half day of kitchen tours in beautiful local GMS families’ homes, with chefs giving cooking demonstrations in each kitchen. Sure to be a great time for all!

Book Fair * November 20-25, 2008 * Help set up and work our four-day book fair in November. Teachers, children and parents can shop from a wonderful selection of new books and the proceeds benefit our library.

escrip/Boxtops4education – This helps our school earn “easy money” by sending in collected Boxtops for Education and signing up parents who shop at Genuardi’s Supermarket. This does not involve a large time commitment.

  Social Events

Fall Family Festival * October 15, 2008 * Be part of the fall fun for the whole family. Plan our old time festival where kids play carnival games, win prizes and enjoy the autumn season. Don’t forget to visit our library table to donate a new book in your child’s name.

Ladies Night Out * October 2008 * This is an evening where moms can go out alone together (!) and relax and socialize.

NEW! Family Movie Nights 1 & 2 * November 14 and 15, 2008 and April 17and 18, 2009 * Coordinate our winter and spring evening gatherings in the kindergym, where parents and kids enjoy pizza, popcorn, camaraderie and a great movie.

Teacher Appreciation* December 2008 * Show your support by making our teachers and staff feel special by organizing birthday gifts and a delicious festive holiday luncheon.

Spring Fling * May 13, 2009 * This is a fantastic afternoon with games, rides, music and dinner for all our friends and families. It is so much fun to plan & attend.

NEW! Dads and Kids Day * May 16, 2009 * Fathers and their child(ren) spend the morning together with other GMS dads/special people, involved in an organized fun activity. The committee chairs will choose what type of event and plan the day.

Ice Cream Social * May 2009 * This popular event held on a spring afternoon helps welcome our new incoming families.

New Family Welcome Committee This committee matches new families with a veteran family to welcome them to the GMS community.

  Growing and Learning

Community Service This committee sponsors many events throughout the year such as: fall and spring clothing drives, helping the children to make casseroles for shut ins and meals for the homeless, book collections and a visit to the Gladwyne fire station. Help for one event or more, as your time permits.

Enrichment Help enrich your child’s education by arranging special performances and educational speakers to delight our children. Choose from past hits and try a few new performances.

Speakers Schedule & coordinate parent educational speakers to speak at GMS several evenings throughout the year.

  Ongoing Support

Bulletin Boards Express your creativity! The decorations of the foyer bulletin boards create a wonderful Montessori environment by setting the mood when the children & adults enter the main lobby of the school.

Hospitality This committee provides food and refreshments for school sponsored events.

Library Assistant – Carol Barclay our school Librarian is looking for a few good moms who would love to help her weekly on a Thursday or Friday. It requires only 45 minutes of your time either after drop off or before pick up to re-shelve books in the Primary and Elementary Libraries.

Sandpaper Newsletter Plan and layout articles, artwork and pictures in our newsletter published three times a year.

School Garden Team This committee works as a team to continue to aid in the beautification of our property by contributing landscape and garden ideas and preparing it for each season.

Sunshine Club -This committee assists members of our school community during times of need such as illness, birth of a child or any event that calls for helping hands. Coordinate the participation of your class making meals & delivering them to the family’s home.

  School-sponsored Events

Welcome Back Picnic * September 3, 2008 * This picnic allows returning and new families to meet and celebrate the beginning of a new school year.

The Journey * November 1, 2008 * Parents are given the opportunity to explore the Montessori method as they travel through the classrooms, from Stepping Stones to Upper Elementary. By taking part, parents gain a better understanding of how their children learn. All new parents need to attend this truly enlightening experience.

Annual Giving Campaign – Lend your support by contributing your time and energy by helping raise needed funds for the school.

Breakfast with Dads * November 11 and 12, 2008 * Dads of primary and elementary students enjoy breakfast with their children and have a chance to visit students’ classrooms.

NEW! Breakfast with Moms * February 10 and 11, 2009 * Moms now have a chance to spend the morning having breakfast with their children and see their work first-hand. This event will be organized like Breakfast with Dads.

Field Day * May 6, 2009 * Held in the spring this event involves all-dayers to sixth graders. Help is needed with organizing field events for this fun event.

Grandparents / Special Friends Day *May 8, 2009 * This springtime event is loved by all students and their invited guests.

All Dayers Celebration *May 21, 2009 * To commemorate the completion of three years in primary, all-dayers are treated to an event that celebrates their accomplishments.

Here We Grow Picnic * May 2009 *As our Stepping Stones children move up to First Year Primary, this picnic brings them together to celebrate this new and exciting step. The event gives parents and children an opportunity to meet the primary teachers, children and other parents who are making this big move.

Graduation/Crossing Over * June 2008 * Don’t miss this truly wonderful event honoring our sixth-grade graduates and students “crossing over” from Primary to Elementary.
