The Physical Education programs at GMS are designed to provide knowledge, skills, and motivation for a lifetime of health, exercise, and physical activity.
All Dayer curriculum units include basic movements, beginning games, gymnastics, scooters, basketball, parachute activities, and pillow polo. Students in first and second year primary participate in individual stations in the areas of locomotor movements, non-locomotor movements, and manipulation skills. Students also participate in group activities including free play in the kindergym.
Classes meet twice a week for 30 minutes.
Curriculum units for Lower El include soccer, flag football, fitness, lacrosse, basketball, floor hockey, swimming, and basic skills (throwing, catching, etc.) For Upper El they include soccer, flag football, fitness, lacrosse, Frisbee, basketball, floor hockey, baseball, and swimming.
Physical Education Classes meet twice weekly for 45 minutes. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in physical activities outside of class and share those experiences in class. Students are also expected to be able to lead class warm-up exercises.
The President's Challenge Physical fitness program is administered twice a year, in October and May. This program includes five events (curl ups, shuttle run, mile run, pull ups, and sit and reach) that measure muscular strength/endurance, cardio respiratory endurance, speed, agility, and flexibility.
