Emily's Graduation Speech
I’m so happy I’m speechless.
No really.
I’m speechless.
My frog ate my copy this morning. This is just something I whipped up in the last 15 minutes.
Just kidding.
I came here in kindergarten. I was in Mrs. Lanahan’s class.
In 1st grade I met Ella Cohen, Nicole Surman, and Julia Fuchs. We became
“THE 4 MUSKETEERS.”
From 1st through 3rd grade I was in Meg and Lois’s class. I remember doing bead chain, bead frame, checkerboard, pin maps, salt maps, and handwriting. I also remember the class pet guinea pigs Teddy and Zoë. In 2nd grade I met the new 1st graders: Nikki, Kelly, Lizzy, and Antoinette. I really had fun those years. Thank you Meg and Lois.
In 4th grade my teacher was Mrs. L. There were only 5 kids in the class.
5 fourth graders. 5 girl fourth graders: Meredith Noll, Ella Cohen, Nicole Surman, Nia Hall, and me.
Then in the middle of the year David came back from Haverford Friends.
5 girls and 1 boy. We did a lot of group projects since there were only 6 of us. We were studying ancient history and we went to see real live dead people (a.k.a. mummies) at the University of Pennsylvania Museum.
In 5th grade there were 6 new 4th graders: Linnea, Alek, Alex, Kevin, Luke, and Ken. Mrs. L. also got an assistant teacher, Mr. Nord. We raised painted lady butterflies from larvae and released them when they had wings. Then we each picked a different kind of butterfly and did research on it. We each painted our butterfly on a bench and it went in the auction. We also went to the Academy of Natural Sciences to see the butterflies there.
This year there were 23 kids in the class: six 6th graders, five 5th graders, and twelve 4th graders. Mrs. L. is still my teacher, but Mr. Nord went to work in primary and we got a new teacher, Mrs. Supriya, who got us started on science projects like solar cars. Also we did religion projects. You had to have a report and a visual aid. I studied Hinduism. For the 6th grade trip we went to the Baltimore aquarium in a limo! We saw sharks, lots of rays, and a dolphin show. So thank you Mrs. L, Mrs. Supriya, and Mr. Nord.
I’d also like to thank:
- Mr. K., who always had a good joke to tell,
- Madame Denise for teaching French and art,
- Coco: now I know how to read music,
- Sally for helping me with my vocabulary,
- Mrs. Barclay for always helping me find a book, and Mrs. Mary for helping me with the speech I’m reading now.
- I’d like to thank my parents and friends for all their support
- And of course Dr. Balamore and Mr. Ebmeyer.
- Thank you, G.M.S, for making the years I’v spent here the greatest.
