Charlie's Speech at graduation from Gladwyne Montessori School

Charlie

For the past four years I have enjoyed being in the Gladwyne Montessori School. Gym has been great for me because I could use my athletic abilities in games, and also listen to Mr. K's funny jokes. Reading has been a great pleasure to be in. Although there were some tough reading packets about twenty pages long, it will probably get me ready for middle school. French and art have been great, too; Madam Denise has taught me to make pictures come alive and in French, how to say some pretty complex words. Coco has taught me how to play some instruments I have never even seen before, and helped with plays like the Cirque de Soleil.

I went to Shady Grove Elementary School for two years and I was planning to stay for three, but when I saw this school I knew what school I wanted to go to next, because of the nice people in the school, the big playground at recess, the nice teachers that helped me, and being able to eat in your own classroom. When I joined the school there was much more ahead of me.

Meg's class was fun. I learned many things also. I had some wonderful times there. I remember in the beginning of the year I came in and had no friends yet, then Meg said that this kid named David had no one to talk to either. That is when I met David Corenswet. Lois also was a magnificent teacher; she has always made me feel at home. Lois has also helped me get ready for the bus and waited with me if my bus driver was late. After being in Meg's class, I went up to upper elementary where I always wanted to be. When I was in lower elementary I always looked up to upper elementary people.

The day I walked into the Upper el. I saw Gardner Butterworth, Sean Savett, and Seth Engel. They were all sitting on a couch! I made friends on the first day with Seth, Sean, and Gardner. They were all very friendly. In about February, Gardner, Sean, Seth, and I started up the band called Oracle 550. That is something I will remember about the school, too.

In upper el. we made a weather station that took about a year to make, but was great fun to do. This year, as you all can see, there is construction going on which our class has been keeping track of by taking pictures when we check the weather.

Another thing I love is credits. They are one of the many favorite things of the year. You can buy, jolly ranchers, fifteen minutes of drawing, and other pleasures. One of the most dreadful things of the year is homework homework, homework.

I am very happy that GMS has made Spring Fling and the Family Fall Fest, they are great fun too. Field day is really, really fun. We got to play lots of games for two hours straight!

Members of my class will probably remember me as the pencil thief. The reason is that I always steal pencils from everyone. Just the other day, I had 22 of Seth's pencils.

I remember in fourth grade we had a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in a limo! That was a great experience! Camp Onas is the best field trip in the world I don't think I will ever go on a cooler field trip again.

I would like to thank Mr. L for teaching me long division, fractions, how to make percentages from fractions, and lots of other work. I would also like to thank Mr. Ebmeyer, Meg Bolton, and Lois. Thank you.
