Angela's Graduation Speech

Angela I have been in this school for two and a half years. I used to go to Gladwyne Elementary, but in the middle of second grade, I decided to look at another school. We looked at this school first because my brother went here, and we had heard great things about the Elementary program.

The minute I stepped into Mrs. Hartnett's and Mrs. Slattery's classroom, I immediately wanted to go to this school. One of my favorite things was the Checkerboard, which helped me a lot with my long multiplication problems. By the time I got to third grade, I was doing harder things, like Fractions and Division. In Geography I loved to do salt maps. A mixture of salt, flour, and water is used to make the mountains and the land. I had a goal of trying to make salt maps of all the continents, and I did do five, so I was close.

Then the time came for me to move up to the Upper Elementary. Days, weeks, and months flew by faster than I expected. One of my favorite things in Upper El was the pin map. We chose a continent, put the pins, which the stood for the countries, cities, mountains, oceans, and rivers using an atlas. We then wrote the names down on a blank map, used rubber stamps to show the products of each country, and then memorized the map. The only thing I didn't like about it was that we had to memorize it; Asia and Europe had too many names. Some other things I liked were the couch in our room, and credits. Credits are different beads people can earn, and if you have a certain amount, you can buy treats with them, like a Jolly Rancher, or a night off homework. Some of my favorite plays I did in both Lower El and Upper El were King Arthur, The Fabulous Formula, and my favorite out of all of them, the Cirque de Soleil.

When I came to this school, I wasn't familiar with the Fitness Testing, so Mr. K, our gym teacher, explained it to me. All the Elementary have to do it two times a year. The first time, it's just a practice, so it doesn't count. In the Fitness Testing, we have to Situps, Pullups, Shuttle Run, V- sit and reach, and then the mile run. The point of the Fitness Testing is to check your skills, flexibility, and so forth. One of the things I look forward to at the end of the year was our annual trip to Camp Onas. It was a trip that all the Elementary go to. One of my favorite things about Camp Onas is the Rope Swing. The Upper El get to stay there two nights.

I would like to thank Mrs. Hartnett and Mrs. Slattery for teaching me every problem in math, Mrs. L who knows every problem in the world, Coco, who taught me rhythm, Mrs. Hunter, who knows everything about computers, Madame Denise, who taught me creativity, Mrs. Harris, who improved my vocabulary, Mr. K, who always had a joke to tell, Sally, who was a great substitute, and Joe, who introduced me to the recorder.
